Fashion Takeaway- The Nautical Look

Aberdeen Maritime Museum are putting on a free workshop for young people between14-19 years and there are still a few days to book a place.

The classic nautical look never goes out of fashion; appearing on runways the world over, time and time again.

Work with designer Monica Wisniewski to design and print your own bespoke, nautical tote bag to take away.

Develop skills in sketching, design and lino printing.

Spectra 2016 Residencies 


Aberdeen City Council is seeking to commission an arts organisation or partnership of organisations with experience of participatory engagement and a track record of producing high quality and innovative work. To engage Aberdeen’s school pupils and their families in the creation of a participatory work(s), linking the project with CfE and presenting the project as part of SPECTRA, Aberdeen’s festival of light in February 2016.

There is no prescribed form for the final work(s), for example it could be an installation, a series of sculptural pieces, a participatory performance/parade or celebration with a visual element. There is a requirement that the work incorporates light as a medium within the physical presentation, offers a quality participatory experience and demonstrates high artistic quality, innovation, and a celebratory sense of scale and inclusion.

There is a budget of £25,000 for this commission and the closing date for applications is 5pm Sunday 2nd August 2015.

Late applications will not be accepted.

Laurence Winram Photography Exhibition at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary


Photographer Laurence Winram has been invited by Grampian Hospitals Art Trust (GHAT) to exhibit his latest body of work in the Small Gallery at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary/

Born and raised locally, Laurence is a professional photographer who is now based in Edinburgh.

Shadow is series of portraits which was initiated a few months ago as a collaboration between Laurence and the models within his work, with a number of the image ideas coming from the models themselves.

Exploring the depth of mood and ethereal quality that can be evoked by careful use of lighting and double exposure, Laurence has created this series of stunning photographs using his own home made camera lenses.

Shadow will be exhibited in The Small Gallery in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary from July 20 to September 11 and can be accessed 24 hours a day.

AIYF Starts This Week! 

The highlight of summer is finally here as the Aberdeen International Youth Festival kicks off this week. One of the biggest celebration of youth arts. With young performers arriving in Aberdeen this week to take part the city will be buzzing once again this year.

Extras Needed for New Drama A major new drama series is about to start filming at Balmoral and the producers are looking for extras. Starring Matt Smith of Doctor Who fame and written by Peter Morgan who scripted The Queen this is a great opportunity to get a great tick on your acting CV. Filming begins the second half of July.To apply click here Stonehaven Folk Festival This Weekend Stonehaven The festival offers a wide and varied range of performers, with some very exciting new bands and artists. In addition to the main stage concerts  you can  sample some of the many other events organised over the weekend. These include the ever popular World Paper’n’Comb Championship (Sat) and the Aqua Ceilidh (Sun). The Festival will open with a “Big” session on Thursday evening (9th July) and close with the Sunday night concert, hopefully something for everyone, and all set in beautiful Stonehaven- what could be better! The Act Aberdeen Summer Arts Carnival runs from Monday 6th July – Friday 7th August and  have lots of brilliant workshops for creative kids.  Have a look through the weeks and see what you would like to do, there is acting, ballet, 3D art, funky dance, big art, acting and make up, jewellery making, alien gloop and loads more!
